About Clover

London-born mezzo-soprano Clover Kayne is praised for her flexible, warm tone and magnetic stage presence. She completed her Advanced Diploma with Royal Academy Opera, studying with Kate Paterson and Jonathan Papp, and graduated with the Regency Award. During her studies, she was runner-up in the Richard Lewis Award and a finalist in the Royal Over-Seas League Annual Music Competition.

In 2024, Clover was selected as a Young Artist at the Georg Solti Accademia, where she refined her Italian repertoire with leading coaches and conductors. She will join Garsington Opera as an Alvarez Emerging Artist for the 2026 season.

Her operatic roles include Hänsel, Ariodante, Florence Pike, and the Fox. In opera scenes, she has performed Octavian, Charlotte, Annio, and Rinaldo, demonstrating particular affinity for lyric trouser roles and dramatically nuanced repertoire. She has worked with companies including Nevill Holt Opera, If Opera, and Grimeborn Festival.

A committed recitalist and concert performer, Clover appears regularly with Opera Prelude and has performed at venues including St George’s Bristol, Iford Manor, the Austrian Cultural Forum, and the Italian Cultural Institute. Her concert repertoire includes Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Janáček’s Říkadla at LSO St Luke’s, Mahler’s Rückert Lieder, and premieres of new works.

Her performances have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4, and she has premiered contemporary works alongside established repertoire. She was supported by the Carr-Gregory Award, the Hannah Horowitz Award, and the Opera Awards Foundation, and is a Josephine Baker Trust Artist. A dedicated collaborator, she was regularly coached by pianist James Baillieu and has participated in masterclasses with leading international singers and pedagogues throughout her developing professional career to date.

Her selection for the Wigmore Hall French Song Exchange 2026 reflects her growing reputation as a compelling and sensitive interpreter of song. She brings warmth, intelligence, and vivid storytelling to both opera and recital performance. Her career continues to develop across leading UK stages and venues.
